STUDY VI. SCOTLAND

"Come with me to the Winged Isle

Northern father's western child

Where the dance of ages is playing still

Through far marches of acres wild."

Ian Anderson

Experiencing the landscape of Scotland on-site is valuable because it is sensory-rich and character-forming. Places like this stay in your memory and inform who you are. The sites which remain in your mind, are the landscapes that you felt most intensely.

Much of my early photographic research explores the harsh coastal and mountainous landscapes of Scotland. I’m moved by the history of northwest Europe and by the mythologies inspired by these remote topographies over the centuries. My work aims to reflect on themes of time and collective memory by revealing nature as something material that exists with human subjectivity. This photographic study expresses the landscape as something that was there a long time before us, characterized by ongoing objective forces that do not cease to exist beyond human consciousness.
